Todo Voodoo: 101 Uses #0064

4 Votes

Friday morning I turned on my computer but it never woke up.

The hard drive died. If my back-up was corrupt I’d lose everything. All of these web comic files, my two business’ files, and worst of all my upcoming graphic novel files. After the 55 hour restore time I came back and found Time Machine had made my computer good as new. Amazing.

So the lesson here is back-up often, use different methods, and always plan for failure. Backup now - the comics will wait.

Pixelton Hero: Ryan of bluboycomics.blogspot.com! I’ve mentioned before that for the most part I hate comics. Reading them makes me angry for a great art form which is wasted. But even being the cold, heartless bastard I am, I love BluBoy. Ryan is one of the few people who give me hope. Go Ryan Go!

Plugs #1! The Guest Strip Project raises money for the Make-a-Wish foundation. You visit, kids get their dream realized. Mike Rouse-Dean the creator works tirelessly to help others using comics. He is another shining example of good in this industry. Go there and make the world a better place. (And hey, I did a strip too!)

Plugs #2! Kidjutsu is a comic site geared for younger readers. It focuses on interesting stories that are also mom and dad approved. Brian from Kidjutsu was kind enough to pass along an invite, so Welcome to Pixelton also lives here for your viewing pleasure. Thanks Brian and best of luck with this exciting site!

Plugs #3! I’m now up on IsItFunnyToday.com. This means you can vote to tell others how funny this (or other) comics are. Brilliant idea and perfectly executed. If online comics are your thing, you need to bookmark this site. Please help spread the 8-bit hero love!

Oiled in hope/anchored in doubt,
- Josh

Glad to know your time machine worked. Hopefully there won’t be any anomolies in time and space.

Josh, I think you need more practice on drawing turtle feet. Unless all turtles walk on snake/worm appendages, Pixelton turtles are freaks of nature.

I really have a question sorry I could not find your contact info… I was watching your you tube video on Tutorial: Coloring Comics in Photoshop and I have couple of questions.

How do I select just an area to color like you did because I can’t seem to do it and second is how do I select and multiply because no matter what I do it is shaded out and I cannot select it even if I duplicate the layer thanks for your help I look forward to your reply…

    Hey Jeff,

The way to select an area in Photoshop is to use the magic wand tool. It looks like a sparkler near the top of your tools. Then you can click on any color and it will highlight that whole color.

To color you will need to have your black and white art on one layer, and create a new layer to color. Go to your art layer to select your area and then hop over to the second and go color it in with any color. When the layer is not set to multiply you’ll see the color sit on top of your art.

To set the layer to multiply simply look at the top of your layers palette. You should see items like opacity, fill, and one drop down named normal. Click the drop-down and move this to multiply. Multiply will add this color to the layer below it. Now you should have a colored in piece of art that you can edit down the line very easily.

    Hope this helps!

    Hey thanks Josh,

I agree with your thoughts almost too much. The daily strip format hurt the comic and I will going back to biggies after this story is done. Thank you for sharing your ideas. :D

    go south

You boldly move south. It’s pitch dark and you’re likely to be eaten by a Grue.

    light fart. look for josh.

    Light it with what, exactly?
You crawl around in the dark, feeling your way around.

feel own beard. light fart with flint. look for josh

You rub your fingers over the chin, but feel no beard. Damn that gypsy magic!
You muster all that you can, while taking the flint out of your pocket, and rubbing it over your posterior. Sparks fly, as you let one rip.

    KA-BLOOEY!
You’re not quite sure, but you think you caught a glimpse of something gnawing a skeleton’s hand holding a PS bible. What? Whaddya mean ‘Not possible’? Trust me, you saw it. Alright?

    greet creature

You do your usual “Live long and prosper” thing, and get nothing in reply. Unless you count speeding (and approaching) footsteps as a reply. Or low growling. Or something grabbing a hold of you. Or biting your head off. But hey, I guess I’m just talking to myself, because

You have been eaten by a grue and are quite dead. Would you like to (R)estore, (U)ndo or (Q)uit?

    (C) Commit seppuku in honor of the majesty seen in this comment thread. I am not worthy of the beardless one!
