Apple Parody in GTA 4? Bah! Grand Theft Auto skewers Linux

1 Votes

The fake internet in Grand Theft Auto 4 is so wonderful it defies explanation: You need to be experience it to see its full beauty. Ads overflow promoting useless wares, Web 2.0 sites bask in their uselessness, and ego whores blog until their hearts are overflowing with praise (Hmm…). While the GTA series has always been a parody machine, the fake GTA internet is so skillfully on-target it gives chills.

Yesterday The Unofficial Apple Weblog shared Rockstar’s Apple parody in the fake GTA internet…and to be honest it was rather weak. Funny enough but it hit the only the cliches (cost, ego, beauty over substance). A hit and run satire at best.

But since people seemed to enjoy the tame Apple edition, I thought the internets might enjoy a real Rockstar satire, this time on Linux. The roast rages on for six pages, including one Q&A page which goes to town and back on the corpse of poor Linus Torvald and friends. It makes the Apple parody look like an endorsement by comparison. Enjoy!

One important note: There is no fake website for To$$ OS, which is clearly Microsoft.
But why? Is this already tired ground or were they afraid of offending the company that gave them $50 million to create some extra Grand Theft Auto DLC? If only the fake GTA internet held the true answer…

I’m sorry, I just haven’t gotten onto the GTA bandwagon. For me it got boring the moment it let go of the overhead look and tried to do all that gansta crap. That’s right, I remember the old overhead 2D sprite version.

LOL the devs of GTA IV doesn’t have the capacity to install a little GNU/Linux distribution. We understood better why the PC version is so bugged : they seem inefficient in computing, and prefer create easter eggs than debugging the PC version…

Grand Theft Auto is a great game, but as a Linux using Esperanto speaker, I’m slightly offended by this. They didn’t even bother to change the name of Esperanto when slagging it off, and the complaints about Linux not working for music, movies, email and games are just plain lies and tired cliches . Yeah GTA doesnt work well on Wine as far as i’ve tried but a lot of games do, and “plug&play” devices work a lot better on linux with open source generic drivers than eny time when I’ve had to go searching for drivers to fix a friend’s windows PC for them.

Ahah, funny, both of them (Linux user here)

I expecially loved the comments about the Apple parody from the Apple fanboys in the blog you linked… jeez touch their iCrap and they start whining immediatly.
On one thing they’re right, though, it’s not a parody.
And that’s because it’s just the plain truth: it’s simple, it’s bare minimal. And it’s bloody overpriced.

They rant against FOSS in their parody of linux, but the physics engine in the game is Opensource, Bullet Physics Engine. A gorgeous display of ignorance :).
