Josh Farkas, creator of Welcome to Pixelton
FIRST OFF – THANK YOU.

Since Welcome to Pixelton launched only a few months back the support has been astonishing. Over 150,000 hits and growing this has been only the beginning. I have no good excuse for my infrequent updates and lack of cool stuff lately. You were kind enough to ask for a few choice changes and now I need to deliver. You have no idea how much it means to me that you took the time to stop by.

So this site is the first part of that. But that isn’t all the new site brings -
- UPDATES EVERYDAY
- SKETCHES OF THE EARLY COMIC INCLUDED IN THE POST
- VIDEOS ON THE CREATION PROCESS
- MORE IN-DEPTH LOOKS AT THE NEW BOOK
- CRAPPY LISTS TYPED ALL IN CAPS LIKE I’M SHOUTING
- A NEW RULE THAT I CAN ONLY TALK ABOUT STUFF THAT IS DONE

The goal is to bring everyone who has been enjoying the comic even deeper into the creation process, and my life if they care. I hope you dig it. :D

SO WHY THE WEBSITE FIRST YOU EVIL MAN?
Do you remember the first time your parents had one of “those” talks with you? They’d sit you down after a conveniently placed ice cream outing, and before you knew it, you’d be ripe in horrible information you were unable to remove from your tiny skull. Today is also one of those days.

I don’t have real ice cream. I only have the words ice cream which oddly look nothing like the real thing. But maybe we can close our eyes and pretend. [...] MMMmmmnn. Doesn’t it look yummy?

A BETTER WEBSITE
The truth is the old site was horrid. I built it while working at my last job (in between a few hundred terrfied neck snaps in order to ensure the coast was clear) and you could tell. I think Pixelton needs something a bit nicer and this should help it get there.

This massively improved site comes courtesy of ComicPress for WordPress. The design is still in the early stages, but I had to break free before the other website caught wind. Homepages can be jealous and especially cruel harpies.

Here are some of the rad benefits ComicPress brings:
- ARTICLES WITH EACH COMIC
- NEWS
- COMMENTING ON COMICS
- VOTING ON COMICS
- ARCHIVED COMICS
- BETTER (ie. working) RSS FEEDS
- NIFTY CALENDAR
- STILL MORE CAPS LISTS (ARGH!)

Thanks again for your time. Should you enjoy it please show your support by clicking on a voting button, signing up for the RSS, or telling a friend or two. It would mean the world to me!

Best,
-Josh

Looks great Josh, I look forward to the more frequent comics as well as your comments. It’s always a joy to read your writing, whether in the comic or in the blog.

Wow – thanks so much Tim! I swiped almost every cool idea from 2PStart! so I owe you guys in many ways.

I’m shining up the righthand column later today and on the top of my list is getting a giant flashing banner up for 2PStart as part of my payments for thievery.

(And anyone reading this owes themselves to visit http://www.2pstart.com and try not to laugh.)

Thanks Josh, I was going to suggest you look at the plugins we use, and then I noticed you’ve already implemented most of them! The bummer with the Gravatar plugin is that Gravatar doesn’t seem to really work anymore. You might want to put a default image in for anyone who doesn’t have a Gravatar show up. Email me if you want help with this or anything else.

P.S. – Your new header image looks spectacular!

Ha, Ha – yeah, I’m a cold hearted plugin thief. What can I say but that you and Ray did it perfect out of the gates.

I really appreciate the Gravatar and header feedback too. And if anything mind boggling comes up I’ll definitely be in touch!
